About :

The school offers both undergraduate and post-graduate programs that empowers the students to explore freely their intellectual capabilities.

At undergraduate level the students have to study 2 languages (English as compulsory subject and the other language shall be either an Indian language or a foreign language), 3 core subjects with electives and value based and skill development subjects which shall lead to the multifaceted development of students. At post- graduate level provision is made for open electives to enable students to acquire interdisciplinary knowledge. The undergraduate and post-graduate students shall undertake a project in final semester. The projects work shall be carried out in a research organization / industry under the supervision of a faculty member and an expert of that organization or in the department under the guidance of a faculty.

The courses in life sciences aim at providing students key knowledge in basics and applied areas followed by hands on  practical training in various fields such as agriculture, industry, veterinary, health care, food and environmental etc

The School of Basic and Applied Sciences regularly conducts workshop for students to gain hands on experience on  advanced techniques, International, national level and state level conferences, coaching classes for GATE, NET and KSLET. The school also encourages co and extra- curricular activities like inter collegiate, inter class competitions, sports events and biofest,. Besides these it also motivates the students to take part in national and international conferences to present their research findings..

The outcome of this program is to prepare all students with the fundamental and advanced techniques that are indispensable for employment in industry and advanced studies seeking to refocus their careers on biotechnology. The graduates may get into industry or research organization as scientific assistants, quality control/ analysis, project assistants, marketing executive, research assistance or may go for higher studies either in Indian or foreign universities. Teaching and research is another attractive avenue for the post graduate. They may become entrepreneurs by starting their own company in the field of plant tissue culture, diagnostic Centre, biofertilizers and biocomposting units and quality analysis (water, food and environmental) centers.

The School of Basic and Applied Sciences offers the following courses

Undergraduate (B.Sc) Courses in Life Sciences

  1. Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Genetics
  2. Biotechnology, Chemistry and Zoology
  3. Microbiology, Zoology and Chemistry

Nature of Course -- Semester Scheme Duration -- 6 Semesters (3 Years)

Biochemistry

Biochemistry deals with complex processes in life in terms of molecules, their structure and function, reactions and pathways in which they participate and the mechanisms involved therein. It is an interdisciplinary field extending to Physics, Biotechnology, Computer Science and Medicine. Broad areas covered in the program are Structural Biology, Biomolecules, Metabolism, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
