School of Engineering under Dayananda Sagar University provides Science & Technology based Education required to develop high calibre Engineers suitable for Industry and Scientific Organization. The curriculum focuses on knowledge based course work integrated with skill development as a part of training. It equally helps in inculcating the scientific temper necessary for the Lifelong learning process.

At the Under Graduate level, a student goes through the foundation courses in Science, Humanities and Engineering. Each department ensures that the courses cover both Core & Electives as required. Provision for open elective help the students to acquire inter-disciplinary knowledge or specialize significantly in an area outside the parent discipline. At the Post Graduate level, students are exposed to knowledge beyond their specialization and help in broadening their horizons of thought process.

The School of Engineering follows two compulsory Semesters in a year with an option of a supplementary III Semester as a makeup semester. The I Semester begins from 1st August, II Semester from 1st December, and Supplementary Semester from 1st of April.

Curriculum is designed with extensive industry input. All programs are credit-based (see following section for details). Second year lays the foundation of Mechanical engineering core subjects: Kinematics of Machines, Mechanics of Solids and Fluids, Fluid Machinery, Manufacturing Technology, Machine Design. Third year program leverages the student to diversify with choice based department electives. It leverages the student in Design, Heat Transfer, Dynamics, and Analysis. The final year helps to assimilate Control and Optimization aspects. Seminar, mini project, project will make the student to integrate the knowledge gained to technical presentation and product realization.

Computer science and Engineering program's motive is to endow the arduous world with engineers who are proficient to be competent IT professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs. Program shelters all disciplines and intellectual enterprises of computer science province. The curriculum stresses on experiential learning, laboratory work, projects, and ethical practices. First year curriculum covers applied science, basic engineering fields. Emphasis is laid on communication skills and social responsibility. Second year lays the emphasis on foundation courses. Third year program leverage the student to diversify with choice based department electives. It leverages the student in embedded systems, Digital electronics, Digital communication, Optical Communication, Virtual laboratories Final year exposes to the students learn satellite communication, communication networks, Wireless Technologies, etc. Seminar, mini project and project in final year will make the student to integrate the knowledge gained to technical presentation and product development.

About Course:
The Course are designed to focus on applying theory to real engineering problems and technologies, combining training in professional engineering skills with scientific research methods. Courses are designed focusing on wide variety of subjects like Analog Electronics, control system, digital signal processing, power electronics, satellite Communications & recent developments in Mobile communications, VLSI & Embedded system, GSM, GPRS, Micro strip antennas etc.

Responding to a crucial requirement of the present times, DSU is offering an exclusive program, a one of its kind, leading to B.Tech in Technology & Entrepreneurship giving an option to students with innovative ideas to pick a very unusual combination of coming in as a student to participate in an academic program while also being trained to become an entrepreneur.End of the 4 year course, the student would go out with a B.Tech in Technology & Entrepreneurship as also own a Company. 

This enterprise-academic plan would be backed by working professionals, experienced entrepreneurs and veterans drawn from industry who spend time as Visiting Professors and also acting as Mentors to entrepreneurs in the making.

About Course:

A unique learning process

The curriculum would be seminar led with students expected to engage in research; coming out with answers, making presentations to peers and to the Visiting Professors - receiving comments, suggestions to improvise, fine tune, change and re-strategise, wherever needed. It is more of doing and learning and at each attempt the outcome has to show better efficiencies and improved outcomes. With time and continuous fine tuning the product should be developed for acceptance in a global market.
The teaching-learning would have more industry inputs. Evaluation processes would be to assess and ensure the student’s continued ability to apply knowledge to a real product that should go to market. The student would be exposed to working professionals and Visiting Faculty / Professors on a regular basis; who bring with them a mountain of industry experience, information and new knowledge that is real time and good for any major challenge in the future making this program very different over the traditional Engineering courses offered at DSU or elsewhere.

How it works

Every idea would have a team of 3-5 students; team members are chosen by the original owner of the idea or by the Chief Mentor. The criteria for students to be in a team would be originality, technical skills, entrepreneur ability, interpersonal skills, leadership, ability to learn more than one domain- for instance in addition to core Engineering, also master concepts in Design, Marketing, Finance, Logistics and other related fields that could be requirements for any independent individual project. DSU, thankfully, is privileged to access varied expertise to broadly provide for the individual project led needs.A key parameter for selection would be a student’s ability to bring in her / his margin of the total project costs-either on one’s own or pooled from among the team members. All Mentors and Visiting Professors would be entitled to a stake in the ventures started by the students in exchange for time and value adds that they bring to each venture

Work for an independent India

Project ideas are to lead to substantial import substitution, needing lesser time to go to market, should respond to India’s defence needs and similar other demands. All other parameters being similar as in BTech, students with work experience would find preference in admissions.

The Startup Village at the DSU Innovation Campus

A good part of the 4 lakh sft space in DSU’s Campus 3- located on Hosur Road, 12 minutes’ drive from Silk Board Jn and down town Bengaluru -has provision to accommodate about 200 enterprises offering all the needed support and facilities for an idea to be translated into a product. This one of its kind initiative aims to become a prototype to be replicated nationally.
A young individual now has the option to enter the portals of DSU to be trained as a professional Engineer in a select domain or opt to become an Engineer-Entrepreneur

Eligibility:

Admission to the School of Engineering is done through Entrance Examination conducted by the University and others such as CET and DSAT examinations.
Pass in PUC / CBSE / ISCE/10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics & Mathematics as compulsory subjects and a minimum of 45% (for SC/ST 40%) marks aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following subjects: Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Computer Science / Electronics and English as a compulsory subject.

Admission- DSAT Scores and Interviews

Admission to the B Tech in Computer Technology programs would go through a special interview process in addition to DSAT Scores. Applicants have to submit their original ideas which they feel are good for transition into finish products. This national level selection would be routed through an eminent panel of industry experts, scientists, investors, researchers and academicians; and potential mentors/ adjunct professors.
